Contact Series, 10 x 12 in. Toned Silver Prints, 2003 - Ongoing
In my ongoing series, Contact, I use the structure of the grid to closely examine the similar but infinitely different patterns in subjects of both the natural and industrial worlds. These individual studies are done in a sequence of twelve frames and contact printed all together on one sheet of 11x14 inch paper. Typically the contact sheet is seen as an intermediary step in the process of photographic printing, providing the purest form of exposure registration from which to choose an image to enlarge. I am interested in the relatively objective record of a process that the contact sheet provides. No enlargement or correction of images is needed and, therefore, no manipulation. In a sense, what you see is what you get.
