True North, pigment prints mounted to steel, 16 in. x approx. 25 ft., 2007
In True North, I appropriated images taken from the North Pole Web Cam throughout the past year. I am interested in the relative truth and perceived objectivity that we assign to surveillance web cam systems. A slippage of signification is evident as representation and meaning becomes fluid. These seemingly abstract images underscore my interest in the unintentional aesthetic acts of everyday life, which are normally associated with science. The prints are mounted to steel and floated off the wall giving them a three-dimensional quality.
