Strange Attractors, three-channel video, 2 min., 2007
The scientific phrase Butterfly Effect refers to the idea that a butterfly's wings might create tiny changes in the atmosphere that ultimately cause a tornado to appear. In Strange Attractors, I scoured the Internet, appropriating as many web cam time-lapse sequences as possible for a single twenty-four hour day. These are then combined into one file, suggesting a cause and effect relationship. In this web of relations, separate geographic locations merge and the viewer is left to contemplate a metaphor of universality.
