Tides, Approx. 6 x 10 x 8 ft., Two-Channel Video Installation, 2004
Two separate five-minute videos appear in the installation of Tides, each running on a continuous loop. One video records a sequence of waves from a perspective that eliminates the horizon, and is projected from the ceiling onto the surface of a white rectangular box below. The second video, projected on the wall behind and above the waves, reveals hundreds of little black birds moving in an enormous flock across the sky. Shifting in and out of focus, the birds create constantly changing formations closely resembling that of the moving water. Due to the proximity of the two projections, the viewer is encouraged to contemplate the similarities between the patterns and their disparate points of view.
