Wave/Arrow Sequence, 7.5 in. x 10 ft., Toned Silver Prints, 2003
The comparison of the ocean’s surface and horizon to an arrow’s directional reference raised inherent questions about movement and location. Through the sequencing of the images, the force of time also becomes apparent as it both corrodes and accretes, sculpting matter and obliterating its shape. What emerges is an intriguing similarity between seemingly opposed states and processes. The idea that there may be some underlying connection between anonymous urban marks and the eternally changing patterns of natural phenomena fueled my inquiry. Although each signifies something entirely different, their placement together created a neutralization of opposites and suggested the impermanence and interconnectedness of all things.
