Within/Without, pigment prints mounted to steel, 2.5 in. x 9 ft., 2007
A web cam is mounted to the ceiling of a bird-nesting box on a wildlife refuge in Northern California. Every hour of everyday an image is transmitted to the Internet. Choosing four significant dates throughout the past year (spring equinox, summer solstice, autumn equinox, and winter solstice), I downloaded an image for each of the twenty-four-hour days. With the absence of any bird activity, the abstract images operate as a simple meditation on time, documenting the passage of light during the Earth’s yearly phases.
